On Thursday, SPCA officials were at home in the Creswell Gardens section of Butler Township near Fountain Springs seizing over 2 dozen cats.
According to Hillside SPCA Director Sherrie Shafer, the shelter received an anonymous tip about a possible hoarding situation of cats at a home on Pine Street, Butler Township.
Humane Officers arrived at the home just after noon today and seized 28 cats. Shafer also said there are still 6 to 10 cats still in the home that will be trapped later. Two of the cats seized were taken by family members.
Shafer said most of the cats were well taken care of and the situation just became overwhelming for the owner. No charges are expected to be filed.
Ruth Steinhart SPCA was able to take in 9 of the 28 that were seized with Hillside taking in the rest.
Shafer says Hillside is already at capacity for cats so they are asking anyone that is interested in cat adoption to contact the shelter at (570) 622-7769, or call Ruth Steinhart SPCA at (570) 345-3540.
