A quick response by firefighters stopped a dryer fire in Ashland from being worse than it could have been.
Just after 3:00pm, Thursday, emergency personnel were called to 115 West Centre Street in Ashland, the Laundromat, for a commercial fire.
Assistant Fire Chief Charles Orth and the Police Department arrived on scene first to find flames shooting out of one of the dryers and called in a working fire and requested a tanker task force.
Police officers used a fire extinguisher to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived, pulled a line, and put out the fire.
The fire was contained to the dryer but the business sustained smoke and water damage. No damage was found to the apartments above.
The tanker task force was cancelled while they were in route.
Fire crews from Ashland, Girardville, and Lavelle were on scene for approximately an hour while the laundromat was ventilated with a fan.
