After a thirteen-year absence, the traveling cars and stars of the Super DirtCar Series return to the Big Diamond Speedway to showcase their talents on Tuesday night July 12th, 2022.
“We are very excited to have the Super DIRTCar series return to Big Diamond Speedway in 2022,” cited speedway co-owner Jake Smulley. “This year we will celebrate our 50th year of racing and to have the SDS back is very exciting for me and our fans.”
The series has a short but distinguished history at Big Diamond. The first appearance of the SDS was back in June of 2003 and it was “AJ Slideways” Alan Johnson taking the big win. The series returned in June of 2004 with Brett “The Jet” Hearn standing in victory lane. The last appearance for the SDS was back in April of 2009 and it was one of the hometown favorites the “Diamond Cutter” himself Duane Howard who beat the SDS regulars that night to win the race. There was a race scheduled in 2014 but it was cancelled due to rain.
The race will pay $7,500 to the winner with the length of the race to be determined.
The return of the SDS to Big Diamond Speedway in 2022 is just one of the many events that will highlight the 50th season of competition at the Schuykill County dirt oval. Look for a full schedule of events to be released soon.
