A Tamaqua man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after a disturbance Thursday evening and being found with a bench warrant.
According to Mahanoy City Police, on Thursday evening, around 6:30pm, Patrolman Derek Weicikosky was dispatched to St. Luke's Facility in the 200 Block of West Centre Street for a disturbance.
Schuylkill County Communications informed officers that a male had come into the facility and became combative with staff and was intoxicated.
Police arrived and attempted to take the male, identified as Matthew, Elison, 21, of Tamaqua, into custody.
At this point, Elison became aggressive with officers, began to resist, and attempted to grab the officers service weapon and handcuffs. He was eventually handcuffed and transported with assistance from Shenandoah Police.
A check of Elison's information found that he was wanted by Schuylkill County Detectives for failing to report for a 6 to 23 month prison sentence on November 13th, 2021.
Elison was first transported to the hospital for treatment for an injury that occurred before Thursday evening's incident and then locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on the bench warrant.
Elison will be arraigned at a later date for charges from Thursday's incident that include aggravated assault, disarming a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.
