Five people were injured in multiple crashes on Interstate 81 near the Schuylkill/Luzerne County line on Saturday afternoon in a snow squall.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crashes occurred around 1:00pm in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near mile marker 139.2 as a snow squall passed through.
Troopers say a total of 5 separate crashes occurred.
The initial crash involved 3 commercial vehicles and 10 passenger vehicles. Four people were reported to have been injured.
Four additional crashes occurred in the back log with 1 other person being injured in those crashes.
All injuries were non-life threatening and ranged from minor to moderate.
Skook News spoke with several victims of the crash. All of them described that the weather and visibility changed in a matter of seconds at the time of the crash.
State Police at Frackville continue to investigate all 5 crashes.
Interstate 81 northbound was closed for almost 6 hours and reopened just before 7:00pm.
