Alberta M. Lutz
, 93, of Pine Grove, passed away Thursday, February 24th, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Summit Station on August 19, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Harvey & Cora S. (Bressler) Freeman.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death two brothers: Ernest E. Freeman, & Harvey Freeman, & a sister, Pauline Trumbo.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Brown's Church, Wayne Township.

Alberta had worked as a machine operator in the textile industry.

She is survived by five daughters: Beverly, wife of Joseph Gallagher, of Ringtown; Jean Haldeman, Irene, wife of Harry Peiffer, Jr., all of Pine Grove; Kathleen Mervak, of Columbia, SC; & Carol, wife of John Goba, of Cressona; and three sons: Leon Lutz, companion of Susan Fehr, of Schuylkill Haven; Ernest Lutz; & Robert Lutz, companion of Denise Covas, both of Pine Grove. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, a brother, Paul, husband of Shirley Freeman, of Greencastle, PA, a sister-in-law, Shirley Freeman, Schuylkill Haven, and nieces & nephews.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 2nd at St. Mark's Browns Church at 10:30 AM with Pastor Eugene Eckroth officiating.A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service.Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Alberta's memory should be sent to St. Mark's Browns Church, PO Box 37, 151 Summer Hill Rd., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.

William G. Gross, Sr., 73, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday, February 24th, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Schuylkill, E. Norwegian St.

Born in Pottsville, on July 17, 1948, a son of the late Bertha (Ent) and Chester Gross.

He was the husband of Gloria (Whalen) Gross.

He was formerly employed by E A Quirin, St. Clair.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children William Jr. husband of Tracy, Louisiana, Jennifer Tothw ife of Steve, Mary D, Keith husband of Becky, Tremont, Terry, Port Carbon; grandchildren Greg, Lauren, Kevin, Katelyn, Daniel and Hunter; great grandson Jace; brother Robert Gross; and sisters Helen Guest, Nancy Andrews and Virginia Gross.

Services and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Tatyana Yurievna Johnson
, 47, of Pottsville, formerly of Russia passed away at Hawk Mountain.

Tatyana was born in Russia, on December 10, 1974, a daughter of Galena and the late Yuri Nikitin.

She was the wife of Scott Michael Johnson. They were married June 14th, 2010. She was a Homemaker and also enjoyed working at the St. Josephs’ center for special learning, in Pottsville.

In addition to her husband Scott, Tatyana is survived by her two daughters, Anastasia Kristina Keno and Christina Nicole Johnson.

Tatyana is also survived by her brother, Sergei Nikitin. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hamilton - Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in Orwigsburg, on Sunday March 6th at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at noon.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mental Health America, 500 Montgomery St. Suite 820, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Ralph “Moe” Thomas
, 84, of Palo Alto, PA passed away peacefully at Luther Ridge on February 24, 2022. He will be forever missed. Ralph was one of eight children born of the late Harry and Bertha (Pfeiffer) Thomas. He lived his life in Palo Alto. Ralph married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Grover, and celebrated 62 years of marriage. Ralph is survived by his wife Patricia and their children. Susan Donton- Kuhns and husband Pete, Ralph Jr. and wife Marcella, Linda Mingos and husband Ron, Sharon Souchak and husband Tim, Patti Ann DaSilva and husband Jeff, and Joann Conrad. He is survived by 15 grandchildren, Robert Donton Jr, Megan Frasnelli, Paige Thomas, Isaac Thomas, Jacob Mingos, Mallory Mingos, Heather Shappell, Shannon Shappell, Jeffrey DaSilva, Neal DaSilva, Derek DaSilva, Shane DaSilva, Ian Conrad, Kaile Conrad, and Tanner Conrad; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ralph loved sports and the outdoors and was an avid hunter and trout fisherman. He also loved camping, deep sea fishing, spending time on the beach, and going on cruises. He had a permanent campsite at Rosemount Camping Resort for many years. In his youth he enjoyed playing football, softball, basketball, boxing, as well as roller skating and dancing. Ralph was also an avid train collector.

Ralph was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Upon graduating from Pottsville Area High School in 1955 he entered the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, enthusiastically serving for 11 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday March 1st at 11AM at the St. John the Baptist Church in Pottsville, with Rev. Kevin Bobin officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday morning from 9:30-11AM at the Church.

Interment with Military Honors will be held in the St. John's No. 2 Cemetery in Pottsville.

The Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home in Port Carbon is in charge of arrangements.

Bertha H. “Blondie” Botek, 96, of Minersville, passed away early Thursday morning at the Green Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Pottsville.

Born in Drawno, Poland she was a daughter of the late Clement and Helena Buda.

She was educated in schools in Poland. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Minersville. She was a retired garment worker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2011 by her husband Andrew Botek. She was the last living sibling of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her niece Mary Ann Kline and her husband Thomas, Minersville; a sister-in-law Rose Downey and her husband Tony, Pottsville; also nieces and nephews here and in Poland and Australia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church of Holy Family Parish, 139 Spruce St., Minersville at 10 AM Thursday. Relatives and friends may call at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville on Thursday from 8AM to 9:30 AM. Internment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, St. Clair. .

The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Bertha to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral home.
