The Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven has released information on a water rescue in Southern Schuylkill County late Wednesday.
According to investigating officer Trooper Matthew Tonitis, the incident occurred around 5:40pm at a pond on the property at 43 Molino Road.
Police emergency personnel were called for 2 boys, ages 4 and 5, that had fallen into the frozen pond.
Prior emergency personnel arrived on the the children's mother was able to go into the pond and rescue the 4 year old. The 5 year old was not able to be seen.
The Schuylkill Haven Team arrived on scene and located the 5 year old boy under the water.
After being pulled from the water, the 4 year old was taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest then flown to Nemours Albert I Dupont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.
The 5 year old was taken by ambulance to Geisinger St. Lukes Hopsital, Orwigsburg, then flown to Geisinger in Danville and was pronounced dead at 9:12pm.
State Police are ruling the death accidental.
State Police say they were assisted at the scene by West Brunswick Fire, Deer Lake Fire, Orwigsburg Fire, and the Schuylkill Haven Dive Team.
