Joyce L. Shuey, 85, of Pottsville, passed away Sunday, March 13, at Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg.

Born on Jan. 5, 1937, in North Manheim Twp., she was a daughter of the late Joseph D. Trumbo Sr. and Arlene (Bennecoff) Trumbo.

She was the widow of Gilbert D. Shuey.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph D. Trumbo Jr.; and a grandson, Joshua Stokes.

She was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School.

Joyce was a very active member of Friends Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ringgold.

She had worked for several local textile factories as a machine operator. She was last employed by Silray, Orwigsburg, until its closing in 1997.

Joyce loved to bake. She was a life member of the New Ringgold Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Joyce is survived by two daughters, Arlene F., wife of Steve Mengel, of Hamburg, and Deborah A., wife of Frank Generella, of Pottsville; two grandchildren, Cathleen Kayani, Bear, Del., and Alexis Day and husband, Andrew, Slatington; and two great-grandchildren, Grace Ann and Addilynn.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, at Friedens Lutheran Church in New Ringgold. A viewing will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

At the family's request, memorial donations may be forwarded to Friedens Lutheran Church, 525 Church St., New Ringgold, PA 17960.

Edna H. Laubenstine
, 94, formerly of Pottsville, currently of Pine Brook Assisted Living Center, Orwigsburg died Saturday, March 12 at St. Luke’s Geisinger.

Born in Pottsville, March 24 1927, she was the daughter of the late George P. Heinly, Sr. and Mary Kendrick Heinly.

She was a Pottsville High School graduate Class of 1944 and the Ford School of Business. She attended the American School of Banking and Penn State Bunker Hill Center.

She worked at the Pennsylvania National Bank & Trust Company, Schuylkill County Credit Exchange, Pomeroy’s Credit Department and later at the Schuylkill County Court House in the Human Services Department as a secretary and fiscal technician retiring in October, 1993.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville and Circle III’s former secretary and Circle V. She is also a member of the Schuylkill County Employees Retirement Association and Luther Ridge Auxiliary.

Preceded by death is her husband, Richard W. Laubenstine, Sr. who passed away on November 24, 2006 after celebrating 59 years of marriage, also brothers, James D. Heinly and George P. Heinly, Jr.

Surviving are two daughters, Renee wife of Brian Duncan, Pottsville and Susan wife of Ed Howell, Schuylkill Haven area; a son Richard W. “Skip” Laubenstine, Jr. husband of Bernadette, Mechanicsville; seven grandsons Steven, Douglas and Andrew Howell; Jeffrey and Mark Laubenstine; Brandon, and Bradley Duncan; ten great grandchildren and one great- great grandson.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM Friday, March 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, Rev. Chris Rotharpt, Officiating. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10AM until the time of the service. Interment will be held at Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven. Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market Street Pottsville has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family would prefer dopnations be made in Edna’s name to Trinity Lutheran Chirch Third and West Arch Streets Pottsville PA 17901.

Gertrude T. Jenkins, 93, of Forestville, Cass Township, formerly of Mechanicsville, passed away on Friday at home with her family at her side.

Born on June 20, 1928 in Felling-on-Tyne and Wear, England, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Annie (nee White) Wise. She attended schools in Britain; and was a Quality Assurance inspector in the British garment industry before emigrating to the U.S. She became a naturalized citizen in 1970.

She was a member of the former Christ Evangelical Congregational Church, Pottsville, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, retired Air Force Master Sergeant Herbert C. Jenkins, in 1971; five siblings, Rosemary Burrell, Lily Mullen, Doreen McAndrew, Peter Wise and Ronald Wise; her son-in-law, Ronald DePuka.

Gertrude is survived by two children, David H. Jenkins, Saint Clair, and Ruth Ann DePuka, Forestville; five granddaughters, Shawna Lee Jenkins, Danata Jenkins, Carissa Underwood (spouse, Daniel), Kelsey DePuka and Hannah DePuka; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Aurora, Veda, Daniel and Trent. She is also survived by three siblings in England: Shirley Bell, Charles Wise and Alan Wise; nieces and nephews.

Joanne E. Jones, 69, of Pottsville, passed away on Saturday at Pottsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Born on December 8, 1952 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of Alice C. (nee White) Walsh, Pottsville, and the late James E. Walsh. She was a 1971 graduate of Pottsville High School. She was employed in the local garment industry.

She was a member of the former St. Stephen R.C. Church, Port Carbon.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert C. Jones; three daughters, Stephanie Kurchuck, Pottsville, Helene Rea, Harrisburg, and Deanna Jones, Pottsville; She is also survived by five siblings, Michael F. Walsh (Tracey), Washington state, Katherine Eckert (Terry) Manheim, Alice Wolfe (Vincent), Fayetteville, North Carolina, Virginia Britton (Larry), Marietta, Ohio, and Rose Marie Lyons, Port Carbon; nieces and nephews.

David J. Breslin, 59, of North Manheim Township, passed away on Saturday.

Born on August 22, 1962 in Delaware County, he was the son of the late Barbara (nee Tronosky) Breslin. He was a 1980 graduate of Pottsville Area High School. A lifetime resident of the Pottsville region, David was an Associate of Giant Foods for almost 35 years, serving his friends and neighbors at various locations throughout the region, most recently as store manager of the Cressona location.

Sports were always an important part of his life, for his early days in Little League to his lifelong support of the Pittsburgh Steelers to his enduring passion for golf.

Preceding him in death was his loving wife of eight years, Terri Darosh- Breslin, in 2019.

David will be missed dearly by the people he cared for at his passing: his family, sister, Barbara Breslin, stepdaughter, Jacquelynne Letcher; his friends, Laura Konze and Jackie Sabol; and his beloved dog, Deklan.

Rita M. (Lynn) Cavanaugh
, 65 years of age of Coaldale, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, while in the care of her family in Tamaqua.

Born Wednesday, January 16, 1957 in Manville, New Jersey the daughter of the late Cecilia C. (Lynn) Jones. Rita was also predeceased by; husband, William Cavanaugh; son, Raymond Yocum, Jr.; step fathers, William J. Jones.; grandson, Ryan Sadusky.

Surviving are; daughters, Jessica Sterner, Heather Kintz and her fiancé Francis Sytnik, Jr. her caregiver; son, Solomon Peel and his wife Katie; sisters, Shelly A. Turner and her fiancé, Berlyn Troxell, Michele M. Calkins wife of Lee, Georgianne Machay and her husband Kevin, Kathy Krommer wife of John, Roxanne Turner; brother, John Turner and his wife Kathy; grandchildren, Czar, Deana, Aubrey, Kymber, Vincent, Jr.; step sisters, Lavina Dean wife of Richard, Kimberly Harvan wife of Dave; step brothers, Christopher Jones, and his wife Mary, William Jones and his wife Diane. Many nieces and nephews, and her best friend Joseph Peel also survive her.

A Panther Valley High School graduate, Rita worked at Sealy Mattress in Delano for many years, and was a certified Welder. Rita enjoyed wrenching at her sons garage in Mahanoy City, sewing, spoiling her grandchildren who called her Nana, and looked forward to her god daughter Molly who she called "Mcguppy Girl" spending weekends at her home. Rita enjoyed the companionship of her dogs, Nitro, and Lola.

Bradley C. Moser
, 42, of Pottsville, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at his home.

Born in Philadelphia, March 26, 1979, a son of Daniel and Deborah Reigel Moser of West Lawn. Brad was a 1998 graduate of Wilson High School.

He was last employed as a supervisor with Ashley Furniture.

Brad was an accomplished artist, who took great pride in his paintings. He enjoyed spending time driving his scooter around the valley. His love for the mountains and being out in nature was a reason for moving to the area.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his wife of 12 years, Krista Rehkugler Moser, his children, Ridge and Rhane Moser, Morrisville, a sister; Stephanie Smith and her husband Scott, West Lawn, a niece and a nephew; Amanda and Stephen Smith. Many dear friends.

A Celebration of Brad's life will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 3:00 pm from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc., 644 E. Grand Avenue, Tower City, PA 17980.

Margaret Hutsko, 98, of Minersville, passed away early Sunday morning at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Schuylkill.

Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Gaburick Sukeena. She was raised by her grandparents, Stephen and Susanna Gaburick.

She attended the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Minersville. She was a 1941 graduate of the former Pottsville Catholic High School, Pottsville. She was a member of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Minersville, a former member of St. Michael’s Church, Minersville and was a member of St Ambrose Church, Schuylkill Haven. She was a Book Keeper in the local garment industry. She was a member of the Sodality, the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Choir in her former churches. She volunteered for many years at Nativity BVM High School and the former St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School, Minersville.

In 1957, Marge won placement on the ballot by a single write-in vote and subsequently won the position as the first female auditor for the Minersville Borough.

She was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas in 1981, 2 infant children, Maryanna and Mary Jo, and a sister Eleanore Billis.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Suzanne Klegka and her husband John Stephen, Centerville, Va. and Linda Zegley and her husband Raymond D., Rapidan, Va.; 3 grandchildren, Christopher Zegley (Alison), Tuscaloosa, Al., David Zegley (Rachel), Franklyn, Tn. And Meridith Aycock (Taylor), Matthews, N.C.; 6 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael the Archangel Church of Holy Family Parish, 539 Sunbury St., Minersville, at 10:30AM Saturday morning. Relatives and friends may call at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville, Pa. on Saturday morning from 8AM to 10AM. Interment will be in Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Minersville.
