Born on December 28, 1935 and raised in West Pittston, PA, he was the son of the late Mary (Van Duzer) and Rowland Bennett - born Simeon Stacey, orphaned by age two and adopted by Fred and Jenny Bennett.
Graduating with a BS in Education from East Stroudsburg State College (1961) and MS in Mathematics from Ohio University (1973), Edgar served as a committed mathematics teacher at the Pine Grove Area High School for 35 years, supporting students, staff, sports and the community. As a math teacher, Mr. Bennett was considered a tough, but very fair and excellent teacher who was dedicated to the success of his students.
Edgar served 3.5 years of active military service in the 318th U.S. A.S.A. (1954-58), working as a Czech language specialist. When stationed in Tirschenreuth Germany, Edgar met the love of his life, his wife of nearly 65 years, Erika Margareta Mayer Bennett. Edgar rejoined the 453rd Finance section of the US Army reserves in 1974, retiring from the US Army in December, 1993. Edgar received more than a dozen awards during his military service and was activated stateside at age 55 during the first Gulf War, one of the longest deployed reservists in the country.
He was a member of the former St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational Church, Pine Grove.
Edgar loved and was loved by his family and friends and was respected by nearly everyone he encountered for his affable and loyal nature.
He is survived by his wife, Erika, his two children, Dr. Ellen Castagneto and Dr. Eric Bennett; his two granddaughters, Dr. Amber Ortega and Dr. Emily Ortega Goddard, and their spouses, C. Castagneto, E. Jensen, and Dr. J. Goddard. He was preceded in death by a sister Elma June Bennett Anderson.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 9:30 A.M. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. There will be a procession to the cemetery leaving the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove promptly at 8:45 A.M. Anyone following in the procession is asked to be at the Funeral Home by 8:30 A.M.
There will be a visitation on Friday, March 11, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until Noon at St. John's Lutheran Church, 222 S. Tulpehocken St. Pine Grove, Pa. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at Noon at the Church with SALM John Ziegler officiating.

Robert G. Jones, 81, Mahanoy City, passed away on Thursday, March 3rd at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown.
Born in Morea, he was a son of the late Raymond and Mae Jones. Bob had worked as a diesel mechanic for Slusser Brothers until his retirement.
He was a life member of both the West End Fire and Rescue Company, Mahanoy City and the Brandonville Fish and Game. He was a graduate of the former Mahanoy Township High School and is a U.S. Army Veteran.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters; Raymond and Howard Jones, Arlene Griffith and Lois Jones.
Bob is survived by his wife Patricia “ Harviletz “ Jones and his two sons; Jay Jones, Tamaqua and Alan and his wife Sarah Jones, Pine Grove Mills, PA and his two granddaughters; Kailyn and Izabel Jones, his sister-in-law Mary Alice Pittman, Carlisle, also by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday from the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville, with Rev. Sharon Mullins officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the German Protestant Cemetery, Mahanoy City. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Lamar D. "Slip" Schlein, 78, of Tower City, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Pottsville, October 16, 1943, a son of the late Robert and Betty Deibler Schlein.
Slip had worked as a coal miner in his younger days. He was a retired machinist from the former TRW/Chromolloy where he worked for many years.
He was an active member of the former Grace E.C. Church, Muir, a current member of the Faith E.C. Church, Wiconisco. Slip served on the board and was a driver for the Tower Porter EMS for many years and had been a very active member of the Orwin Fire Company where he was a driver of the fire truck.
He was a proud member of the Republican party, enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, the Phillies and the Eagles, enjoyed John Wayne western movies, he also enjoyed auto racing at the local dirt tracks. He could often be found attending his grandchildren's school and sporting functions.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ginger Morgan Schlein, 1996 and an infant brother.
Surviving are his son, Joshua Schlein (Heather), Orwin, his companion of 21 years, Lois Adams, with whom resided, a brother, Robert Schlein (Sandy), Lincoln, Lois' children, Sherry Smith (Dennis) and Lori Buffington (Doug) both of Tower City, his three grandchildren; Allie Smith, Drew and Kade Buffington. Nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 11:00 am from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home Inc., with Pastor Robert Stoner. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin.
