A tradition that began in 1979 in Gordon continued on Good Friday as the Simpson United Methodist Church held their annual "Trek of the Cross".
Jeffrey Nemeth, of Frackville, portrayed Jesus and carried the cross barefoot through the Gordon.
He was followed by borough residents down Biddle Street, back up McKnight Street, and back to the church on Biddle Street.
Nina Kramer portrayed a mourner while Bryce Kyle, of Gordon, and Jacob Sachleben, of Girardville, portrayed the soldiers.
Nemeth has continued the tradition that was started 44 years ago by Nemeth's late great uncle, Elmer Yost.
Edward Labie, who was Yost's nephew, continued the tradition after he passed away in 1989. Labie carried the cross for almost 20 years before Nemeth began to portray Jesus.
