Stanley J. Burke, Sr., age 95, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital in Orwigsburg.

Born in New Philadelphia, PA on November 3, 1926, he was the son of the late Alphonsus S. and Elizabeth (McGowan) Burke.

Stanley served in the U.S. Navy in WW II. After the war, he earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Scranton in 1950. He first worked as a chemist at the Calvert Distillery in Baltimore and then went to Temple University in Philadelphia and earned his Law Degree in 1958 while working as a claims adjuster for the Philadelphia Electric Company. After law school, Stanley first worked for the Atlantic Richfield Company in Philadelphia as an Admiralty Lawyer and later came back to Schuylkill County working for the Noonan Pace and Lavelle Law Office in Mahanoy City. He then met Joseph Burke and they became partners forming what is known as Burke and Burke Law Offices and worked there until retiring.

Stanley was a member of the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon, the Schuylkill County Barr Association, the Pennsylvania Barr Association, the A.P. DeMatto Legion Post in Shenandoah, the J. Harry Bowe in Port Carbon, the New Philadelphia AMVETS, and the Port Carbon Rotary Club. He was and avid hunter and fisherman and loved reading and traveling the world with his wife Melvia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Melvia Anne (Brennan) Burke on March 2, 2016, a daughter Mary Brennan, and a brother Thomas W. Burke.

Stanley is survived by two sons: William L. J. Burke and his wife Lori, Port Carbon and Stanley J. Burke Jr. and his wife Mary, Pottsville; a daughter Susan E. Miller and her husband Derek, New Hope, PA; five grandchildren: Twins Lieutenant Stanley A. Burke, US Navy, Groton, CT and Kathleen S. Burke, Providence, RI, William L. J. Burke Jr. and Anna C. Burke, both of Port Carbon, and Charlotte Anne Miller, New Hope; two sisters: Regina Shearn, Miami, FL and Evelyn Reiley, Shrewsbury, MA; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in New Philadelphia at 11AM on Friday, May 13th, with Msgr. William Glosser officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday morning from 9-11AM at the Church.

Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in Pottsville.

Judith A Heinbach
, age 68, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

She was born on Friday, October 16, 1953, in Gowen City, a daughter of Ray D Rothermel of Shamokin and the late Dolores B (Weikel) Reinoehl.

She was a 1971 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and received her LPN from Schuylkill County Vo-Tech.

Judy retired form Penn State Hershey Medical Center and was currently doing home health care for Aveanna Health Care.

She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins.

Judy was an avid Phillies fan, loved the beach, doing puzzles, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother; by an infant daughter, a brother, Terry Rothermel, and a step sister, Brenda Klinger.

Surviving in addition to her father are a daughter, Angela K Miller of Lewisberry; a son, Troy E Miller of Auburn; a grandson, Jory Fetterolf of Jacksonville, FL; a granddaughter, Olivia Fetterolf of Lewisberry; a great granddaughter, Raelynn Fetterolf of Jacksonville, FL; five step sisters, Gail Stehr of Klingerstown, Wanda Kehler of Klingerstown, Linda Taylor of Navarre, FL, Mary Schaeffer of Klingerstown, and Dorothy Bixler of Donaldson; a step brother, Gary Reinoehl of Klingerstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 11:00 am, with PastorTim Seiger officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.

A large part of Judy’s life was devoted to her love for nursing and caring for other people. She was dedicated beyond measure to those she cared for. Her accident occurred on her way to a client with Rhett’s Syndrome, whom she had cared for over 10 years.
