Three are facing felony charges for theft after an investigation revealed they allegedly stole thousands of dollars from the Hegins Area Ambulance Association.
According to Hegins Township Police Investigating Officer, Sgt. Matthew Dilliman, the investigation began on December 20th, 2021 when the Hegins Area Ambulance Association administrative personnel reported a theft.
The investigation found that Daniel Heffner, 61, and Tammy Heffner, 64,a husband and wife from Hegins, used the ambulance's time clock app to log work hours for Daniel while he worked at his other job, Schuylkill EMS and also while he was out of state.
Tammy Heffner would also use the app the log hours for herself including holidays that she never worked.
Also part of the investigation, it was discovered that the former business administrator, Aaron Maidenford, 26, of Pine Grove, prepared the payroll and manipulated the hours for the Heffners, even changing regular hours to overtime hours.
The investigation determined that Maidenford paid Daniel Heffner for 1,189.28 regular hours and 419.62 overtime hours, including four holidays, totaling $23,852.70.
It was also determined that Maidenford paid Tammy Heffner for 114.33 regular hours totaling $1,468.90.
The Heffners are both facing felony charges of theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, criminal use of a communication facility, and conspiracy charges on the above charges.
Maidenford is facing the same charges with the addition of felony forgery and misdemeanor tampering with records or identification.
All three were arraigned on on May 10th, 2022 before Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
All three are scheduled to appear before Judge Rossi for a Preliminary Hearing on June 2nd, 2022.
Police said the Hegins Area Ambulance Association is seeking restitution of $23,852.70 from Daniel Heffner.
