Emergency personnel responded to an incident on Thursday afternoon that involved heating oil leaking into a creek in North Manheim Township.
Around 2:00pm, Thursday, emergency personnel were called to an odor investigation near the Mahonney Creek near Orwigsburg. When fire personnel arrived, they found a strong odor of fuel oil coming from the creek.
An investigation found that the incident was caused by heating oil tank that was leaking from a private residence on West Market Street and into the creek.
According to Schuylkill County Emergency Management, Orwigsburg Fire with support from Schuylkill Haven Fire placed booms and pads in areas along the Mahonney Creek to contain the oil. The fire departments are continuing to monitor the situation.
