Travis Blankenhorn, a native of Pottsville, graduate of Pottsville Area, and player for the Syracuse Mets has been named the International League of Baseball's Player of the week.
According tot he announcement, Blankenhorn hit .600 (12-for-20) with six RBIs, two home runs, three doubles, five walks, and six runs scored in six games against Rochester. At one point last week, Blankenhorn reached base in 13 consecutive plate appearances.
Blankenhorn has reached base in 30 of his last 34 games since May 12th, hitting .350 with 21 RBIs, five homers, 11 doubles, 20 runs scored, 13 walks, and a .416 on-base percentage during that stretch.
This is the second time this season that a Syracuse player has won a weekly league award. Daniel Palka was named the International League Player of the Week for the week of June 13-June 19.
Blankenhorn had moved on and off of the main roster of the New York Mets since the 2021 season before moving to the Triple A roster. Since then Blankenhorn has continued to make his name known across the minors.
Blankenhorn is scheduled to be interviewed this Saturday by WPPA's Ed Beneshunas and Joey Shemo.
