On Friday evening, a group of nearly 50 women and men gathered on the steps of the Schuylkill County Courthouse to protest the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling by the United State Supreme Court.
Friday's ruling overturns the Rove v. Wade ruling giving the ability back each State to determine if abortion is illegal. Abortion is legal in Pennsylvania and Friday's ruling did not change that, but many who support Abortion, believe this lead to a change in our State.
Friday's rally was led by Tina Burns, who is running for the 124th Legislative District as the Democratic Candidate, and Lisa Von Ahn, of Schuylkill Invisible.
"We were prepared for this decision but we were hoping they would do something rational instead" Von Ahn said.
"We want women to county, we're concerned about future generations and we're concerned about the future of women. This tells us a lot about women in the view of the Supreme Court. We are just incubators while we can bear children. Every woman counts and should be able to determine their own destiny". Von Ahn added.
Two demonstrators attended the rally to oppose the protesters and praised the decison.
One of those protesters, Debbie Sterner, of Schuylkill Haven, who said "We are just to here to show that we love the mothers and the babies, and that we don't want anger and violence over this. We just want love. We want everyone to love the babies".
