A police pursuit that spanned three counties ended in Schuylkill County early Monday morning and resulted in DUI charges.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hazleton, on Monday, June 20th, 2022, around 4:00am, Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Fusion being driven by Sean Taylor, 34, of Plains on South Hunter Highway in Butler Township, Luzerne County.
During the initial contact with Taylor, Troopers suspected he was impaired and asked him to exit the vehicle for a field sobriety test.
After refusing to exit the vehicle, he fled at a high rate of speed.
Troopers pursued Taylor through Luzerne, Carbon, and Schuylkill County, along Route 309, all the while, he drove his vehicle recklessly driving into oncoming traffic.
The pursuit lasted more than 25 miles eventually travelling onto Interstate 81 south and ending at Exit 124 (Frackville/St. Clair) when Taylor took a turn too fast causing his vehicle to leave the highway and become disabled on a concrete median.
Taylor then attempted to flee on foot towards a wooded area ignoring verbal commands from Troopers.
Taylor was eventually taken into custody, arraigned to Magisterial District Judge James Dixon on fleeing and attempting to elude, driving under the influence, and numerous driving violations that included driving without a license.
