A man was killed along Interstate 78 in Berks County on Monday morning.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hamburg, the crash occurred around 4:42am on Interstate 78 eastbound near mile marker 26.4 in Tilden Township.
Troopers say the crash occurred after a 23-Year-Old Lebanon man driving a Mercury had a mechanical failure that disabled his vehicle. While the vehicle was partially blocking the right eastbound lane, the driver exited his vehicle and tried to waive down passing motorists for help.
As this occurred, a 26-Year-Old Pine Grove man, driving a Toyota rear-ended the Mercury pushing the vehicle into the Lebanon man.
Once this occurred, this caused a chain reaction involving 2 additional vehicles.
The Lebanon man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berks County Coroner's office.
As of this posting, State Police were withholding the identities of everyone involved until proper notification can be made. No information was provided if any of the other victims were injured.
State Police are still actively investigating the crash and are asking anyone that may have witnessed the collision to call the Hamburg barracks at (610) 562-6885.
