On Wednesday, North Schuylkill recognized one of their longtime coaches by dedicating a field in his name.
There are many coaching names that are synonymous with the North Schuylkill School District, like Cesari, Edwards, and Hope but there is still one that is still coaching almost 50 years and that's Robert Moyer.
On Wednesday, the North Schuylkill School District honored Moyer for his longtime commitment as a coach for the district but also as a former teacher.
Since he began working for the district in 1973, Moyers taught and coached many roles including Dean of Students, Assistant Football Coach, Head Football coach, Head Basketball Coach, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach, Track and Field Coach, and even a driver's education teacher,
The district wanted to recognize Moyer for his work and planned to surprise him with the naming of the Track & Field Throwing Complex near the Elementary School.
After several months of work, the District was finally ready to unveil the name to Moyer.
Roughly 40 of Moyer's current team, past team members and coaches, school board, and family attended the dedication.
"Bob Moyer has always lived a life that has always combined his passions of athletics and teaching young men and women that have come through our school district." Athletic Director Jim Grose said.
"Coach Moyer has been such a major part in the success of North Schuylkill's Track and Field program over the past 2 decades, he has coached numerous league and district place winners along with State Qualifiers, which has prepared them for the collegiate level", Grose added.
Moyer was then joined by his wife, Janet, daughter, Janelle, and grandson Charlie as they unveiled the new sign bearing his name.
"I appreciate all the athletes and fellow coaches showing up today. This is really what it's all about. Coaching individuals and the lasting relationships and following everybody. The relationships I've built with players and coaches has just been outstanding. I love sports but I love more the relationships that I've been able to have. To North Schuylkill, I thank you for this" Moyer said.
