State Police have released details on a tractor trailer crash that closed southbound Interstate 81 near Delano last week.
According to the State Police at Frackville, the incident began just after 1:00am, on Wednesday, June 29th, 2022 as Harold Dilfer Jr, 67, of Oxford, NY was traveling northbound on Interstate 81 in Delano Township.
Troopers say in the area of mile marker 134, Dilfer claims to have had a medical emergency that caused him to cough uncontrollably and lose consciousness.
The tractor trailer he was driving crossed the grass median crashing through the guide rail and across the southbound lanes into another guide rail.
The truck came to a rest blocking both southbound lanes.
Dilfer was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Dilf was cited for the crash.
Interstate 81 southbound was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.
Assisting State Police at the scene were the Ryan Township Fire Company, Delano Fire Company, Hazleton EMS, and PennDOT.
