State Police are saying two people are confirmed dead and 17 injured after two incidents in Berwick and Nescopeck on Saturday.
According to Public Information Officer Trooper Anthony Petroski, on Saturday evening, around 6:15pm, Troopers from the Bloomsburg barracks received a call to assist the Berwick Police Department with a vehicle that drove threw a crowd at the Intoxicated Department, a restaurant, on West 2nd Street in Berwick where a fundraiser was taking place for the victims of the Nescopeck fire.
A short time later, Troopers from the Shickshinny barracks received a call that in Nescopeck, a male was physically assaulting a female. When Troopers arrived, they found a deceased female, with the male suspect being detained by Nescopeck Police.
The male, who has not been identified yet, in custody by the Troopers from Shickshinny and is awaiting criminal charges.
State Police have confirmed that there was 1 fatality from the Berwick incident along with 17 people injured. One person is confirmed dead from the Nescopeck incident.
The Columbia County District Attorney's office is investigating the Berwick incident with the PSP Troop N Major case team.
The Luzerne County District Attorney's office is investigating the Nescopeck incident with Troop P Major Case team.
