Mahanoy Area Holds Military Appreciation Night to Recognize Hometown Heroes

On Friday night, Mahanoy Area held a special Military Appreciation Night and recognized the local hometown heroes.

With the help of Sgt. Craig Strohl from the Army National Guard, the event was organized to recognize the district's active duty military personnel and veterans during the school's football game against Pen Argyl.

The Golden Bears wore special camouflaged jerseys for their game.

Prior to the start of the game, a special ceremony was held.

The veterans invited were brought out onto the field and joined by the youth football team who were holding flags.  Each of the veterans were named and recognized.

The veterans that participated included:

• Austin Forte
• Richard Mayesky
• Chuck Dzuranin
• Joe Gavala
• Mike Terry
• Lou Getz

The event was held in memory of Peter Luddy and Cody Decker.

Mahanoy Area would go on to win the game over Pen Argyl 20-14.
