A multi-alarm fire in Tamaqua on Monday morning has displaced two families.
Just before 9:00am, emergency personnel were called to 530 Arlington Street in Tamaqua for a box alarm.
Tamaqua Police were first to arrive on scene to find the front of the address fully involved in fire. Responding fire units reported a large column of smoke that was visible. A 2nd alarm was dispatched calling in additional manpower.
Everyone who resided in the duplex homes, including two dogs got out safely. Two cats were reported to have died in the fire.
The fire destroyed the home at 530 Arlington where a family of 6 resided and caused heavy damage to 528 Arlington where a family of 2 resided.
The fire was brought under control in just under an hour and a half with units clearing the scene by noon.
An investigation found that the fire started in the kitchen of 528 and was ruled accidental.
