The sound of music could be heard in Butler Township on Saturday at North Schuylkill's Tournament bands where 16 teams performed.
The event included over 500 musicians from marching bands from Minersville Area, Wyalusing Area, Mahanoy Area, Shenandoah Valley, Panther Valley, Mifflin County, Pocono Mountain East, Central Dauphin, Halifax, Trinity High, Shamokin Area, Donegal High, Upper Dauphin, Williams Valley, and Lake Lehman.
The bands competed in their own divisions and were judged on their visuals, music, and curriculum.
Music fans were treated to 4 hours of music as the bands performed and were judged. North Schuylkill performed at the event but per tournament rules, they were not allowed to place.
Area schools like North Schuylkill and Minersville performed jazz inspired music and Mahanoy Area performed Disney music and Williams Valley performed the music of The Lion King. Shenandoah Valley's band performed hits from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Maynard Fergusion, Steve Miller Band, Seal, and Dua Lipa.
In the 1-A Division, where North Schuylkill competes, Shamokin Area took first place, followed by Upper Dauphin in second, and Trinity High School in 3rd place, Halifax in 4th place, and Williams Valley in 5th place.
North Schuylkill has hosted the Tournament of Bands in their region for over 4 decades.
