Michael Siliekus
, 69, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away Monday, November 14th, peacefully at home.

Michael was born in Philadelphia, Pa on May 11, 1953, the son of the late Eleanore (Siliekus) Lahutsky and Rudolph Hillman. He was raised by his grandparents Michael and Mame Siliekus

Mike graduated from Mahanoy Area High School class of 1971 and also Wilkes University with an associate’s degree in electronics.

He was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City, PA.

Mike worked as an inspector at the former All Steel Corp. in Hazelton.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Humane Fire Company Mahanoy City.

Mike loved the outdoors and volunteered as a camp host with DCNR for over 20 years.

In his younger years he took great pride in coaching youth athletics, including girls’ softball as well as midget and peewee football.

He enjoyed watching and cheering on his favorite Philadelphia sports teams.

Mike was well known in the community and loved to talk to anyone with a listening ear.

He was the husband of Donna (Motsko) Siliekus for 46 loving years.

Michael is survived by a daughter, Donnamichelle, and her Fiancé James Edmonds, of Hammond LA; two sons Michael, and his Fiancé Dawn May, of Tower City; Christopher Siliekus, of Barnesville; a sister, Debra, wife of John Kershetsky, of Mahanoy City. Two brothers, Donald Hillman, of Conyngham; Richard Hillman and his wife LynnDee of Virginia Beach VA.

He is also survived by 4 Grandchildren Courtney, Logan, Mackenzie, Liliana and 1 Great Grandchild Kaison. Nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by a daughter Stephanie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, at 10 AM on Friday, November 18th, with Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating.

Friends may call Thursday 6 to 8 PM and Friday 9 AM at the Funeral Home.


Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery Mahanoy City.

The family wishes donations be made at funeral home to be used towards a memorial bench at Locust Lake State Park in Mike's honor.

Alphonse Vessotskie
, 94, of Primrose, Cass Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Schuylkill – East.

Born on January 29, 1928 in Stakliska, Lithuania, he was the adopted son of the late Anthony and Anna Vessotskie.

He owned and operated the Vessotskie Shoe Store in Minersville with his wife, Jerry. He attended Saint Francis Parochial School, Minersville High School and Penn State University. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served in the European Theater.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish of Minersville, where he had served as Eucharistic Minister.

Al was a Director and Secretary of the former Union Savings and Loan Association, Minersville, and also served on the Minersville Water Authority. He was a life member of the Mountaineer Hose Company and the American Legion where he was a Service Officer and served as Secretary of the Legion Home Association.

Al is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine M. Barton Vessotskie; two daughters, Maryann Vessotskie (spouse, Peter Horch), of Washington Township, New Jersey, and Janet Vessotskie, Ph.D., of Rockville, Maryland; two grandsons, Joseph Alphonse “A.J.” Horch and Robert Horch.

Upon retirement, he spent his summers at the Jersey Shore and his winters in Hollywood, Florida.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville on Tuesday from 7:30 A.M. Visitation will end promptly at 9:45 A.M. when procession will form. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, 135 Spruce Street, Minersville. Interment with military honors will be at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Colleen Maurer, 66, former Ashland resident, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the Ridgeview Nursing Center, Shenandoah Heights. 

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, will announce funeral arrangements.
