A fire destroyed the Red Creek Wildlife Center in Wayne Township on Monday morning.
Just after 8:00am, Monday, 911 dispatch received a call of a possible structure fire near the intersection of Deiberts Valley Road and Moon Hill Drive, in Wayne Township.
The first firefighters on scene arrived to find flames shooting through the roof of the Wildlife Center.
Early reports were approximately 50 to 60 animals died in the fire, but an exact number was not known.
The fire was brought under control around 10:00am. The main building of the facility was a total loss.
A State Police Fire Marshal has been called to investigate a cause.
The Center released a statement on Facebook midday on Monday.
The staff and directors at Red Creek would like to thank all the first responders and volunteers on site. Announcements on the operations and future of Red Creek Wildlife Center will
be made at the appropriate time.
Schuylkill County organizations like Hillside SPCA and Fresh Start Animal Rescue have already jumped into action and are helping collect items and money for the facility.

Red Creek is one of two facilities in Schuylkill County that aid and help rehabilitate wildlife animals if they are injured.
