On Thursday night, the North Schuylkill School District recognized Spartan Alum Reggie Crawford.
Crawford, a 2019 graduate, was recognized for his Baseball accolades during his time as a Spartan and being picked up by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft in July. He had also played for the University of Connecticut's Baseball Team during the 2020 and 2021 seasons and had just transferred to the University of Tennessee before the draft.
Baseball Head Coach Nick Brayford presented Reggie with a plaque listing his accomplishments.
Crawford was joined by his former Baseball Coaches as well as his family during the presentation.
Afterwards, he took photos with his fans and signed some of his baseball cards.
"This is something extremely special and something I'm thankful for. Ultimately without this core group of people here, especially the coaches, I wouldn't be in the position that I am." Crawford said after the presentation.
Crawford says he has been living in Arizona during the off-season. He also talked about how great it is every day to get up and go to work.
"I think about this a lot. I wake up and I go to work and my work just happens to be going to play baseball. I'm beginning to realize how special this experience is. I owe it myself to get the most of it."
Ultimately, Reggie says he is just excited to start playing.
"I'm ready to get back on the field, get my at bats, get my innings on the mound, and just be able to compete." he said.
As of right now, Crawford said he is preparing to play as a pitcher as well as a hitter. He said he will attend some camps in January and February before Spring Training.
Crawford said he also has some work to do to prove himself before he plays in during a big-league game. San Francisco has a low A team in San Jose, where the team typically starts their rookies. He says there is a good chance, once the season starts, there is always the chance of getting fast tracked.
The plaque presented on Thursday will be hung in the high school trophy case along with other alumni that have moved on and excelled in higher level of sports.
