John Carl Hafer, 100 years of age, formerly of Tamaqua passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Pine Brooke Personal Care Center in Orwigsburg having resided there for the past 7 years.Born Thursday, September 21, 1922, in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania the son of the late Raymond S., and Ester Mae (Resh) Hafer. Carl was also predeceased by; his beloved wife of 76 years, Jean (Fisher) Hafer on October 20, 2017; son, J. Carl Hafer Jr.; grandsons, J. Carl Hafer III, Scot, and Stanley Borascius; brother, Russel Hafer; sisters, Anna Grube, Wilhelmena Stauffer.
Surviving are daughter, Ester Jean Borascius wife of Stanley of Schnecksville;
sons, Joseph "Ted" Theodore Hafer and his wife Bernadette of Auburn, Gregory S. Hafer and his wife Elaine of Pottsville; daughter-in-law, JoAnn (Potosky) Hafer of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Robert Borascius, Joseph Hafer, Lance Hafer, Dean Hafer, Bernadette Trostle, Brandon Hafer, Alexander Hafer, 12 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Ney, Betty Hafer; brothers, Ralph, Paul Hafer.
A 1940 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Carl attended Penn State University for 1 year before entering the Navy. Carl was a proud member of the United States Navy serving honorably during WWII. Returning home Carl went to work for the Western Electric in Allentown as a machine operator working there for 34 years, retiring in 1985. A former Eucharistic Member of St. John XXIII R.C.C. of Tamaqua, Carl now worships at St. Ambrose R.C.C. in Schuylkill Haven,
Carl was an active member of the Tamaqua Community. He was a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus Henry Baker Lodge of Tamaqua, Past Grand Knight Lifetime Member Post 2711, 4th degree Schuylkill Assembly. Boy Scout Leader of Pack & Troop #73 for 25 years, having been awarded the Silver Beaver award, and the St. George Catholic Scouting Award in 1968. Carl also belonged to the South Ward Fire Co., served as Past Master of the Lewistown Grange, US Ship 257 Minersville Navy Club, and Plank member of the US Navy Memorial, Sampson WWII Veterans Association, V.F.W Post 173 Tamaqua, Life member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Born on February 7, 1940 in Pine Grove, she was the daughter of the late Walter Sr. and Esther Loy Herring.
She was a 1958 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School.
Jane was a member of Hetzel's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Edward Neidlinger, Sr., a son Brian Neidlinger; three brothers, Walter S. Herring, Jr., William C. Herring, Sr., Timothy Herring; and two sisters, Dawn Herring and Gladys Bachman.
Surviving are a son, Edward Neidlinger, Jr. and fiancé Kimberly Nagle; a daughter, Wendy and husband Donald Dower, Sr., all of Pine Grove; three granddaughters, Amanda and husband Jarret Lucas, Samantha Dower, and Willow Neidlinger; three grandsons, Paul and wife Joy Neidlinger, Russell Dissinger, and Donald Jr. and wife Irene Dower; nine great grandchildren, Emmalee, Heaven, Devin, Kaylee, Russell Jr., Rayna, Blaze, Gage and Michael Jr.; nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Daisy.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Hetzel's Lutheran Church, 261 Hetzel's Church Rd., Pine Grove, with John Ries officiating. There will be a viewing on Friday, January 6, 2022 from.9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Church. Interment will follow in Hetzel's Cemetery, Pine Grove.

Charles was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 14, 1930, a son of the late Anne (Hodel) and Leonard Biertempfel.
He was the widower of Silvia J. (Heffner) Biertempfel.
He was a member of Bethany Christian Fellowship E.C. Cressona, and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Charles was proud to serve his country and was a recipient of two Purple Heart Medals. He was a member of Cressona Lodge # 222 Free & Accepted Masons, the Cressona Fire Company, # 1., and the Cressona American Legion, Post #286.
Charles is survived by two daughters, Jean M. Biertempfel, of Cressona, PA; Linda A., wife of Albert Zitkus, of Bethel, PA.
Charles is also survived by his sister, Louise, widow of Tom Taylor. He is also survived by his grandson Michael Zitkus.
A Religious Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 4th at Bethany Christian Fellowship E.C., in Cressona, with Pastor Dennis Snyder officiating. Guests are invited to attend from 9:30 AM until 10:45, at which time there will be a Masonic service.
Interment, with Military Honors, will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, on January 17th at 11:00 AM. Guests attending are asked meet at the church. Procession to the Cemetery will leave at 10:00 AM.

Hilda C Herb, age 99, formerly of Valley View, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Providence Place, Pine Grove.
She was born on Tuesday, February 13, 1923, in Elizabethville, a daughter of the late Henry Huntzinger and the late Meda (Umholtz) Huntzinger.
She was a graduate of the former Hegins Township High School.
Hilda was a seamstress in area garment factories, prior to her retirement.
She was a member of the Church of God, Valley View.
Her husband, Dallas Herb, passed away in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her step father, Jay Lahr; three sons Ted Herb, Eugene "Pete" Herb, and James Herb, and by a brother, Carl Huntzinger.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann L Geist of Hummelstown, Betty Erdman and her husband Jim of Enola, and Karen Umholtz of Enola; thirteen grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
