Lillie Anne Starr, 83, of Mary D, PA, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at home. She was the wife of Lester Starr with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage this past October.
Born in Middleport, PA on July 29, 1939, Lillie was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lillian (Myers) Stephens. She graduated from the former Blythe Township School in 1957. Affectionately called “Dynamite” by husband Lester, Lillie lived for her family and enjoyed taking care of her dogs. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
In addition to her husband, Lillie is survived by sons, Thomas Parsons and Michael Starr both of Mary D; daughters, Dawn Lucas of Colorado and Lisa Gooding of Chester Springs, PA; grandchildren, Alison, Jessica, Clarence, Cassandra, William, Ember, Elexus, Amanda, and David; great grandchildren, Trent and Layne; sisters, Linda Purugganan of New Jersey, Charlaine Kolbush of Tamaqua, PA and Michelle Flemming of Orwigsburg, PA; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by brothers, Larry and Robert.
Services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call 9-10 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lillie’s name may be made to the Mary D Fire Company, PO Box 376, Mary D, PA 17952-0376.
Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.

George Michael Cope, 36, of Tamaqua, PA died on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, in Tamaqua.
Born in Lehighton, PA on September 26, 1986, he was the son of George Howard Cope, Jr. of Sandia Park, NM and Lisa Marie (Trubilla) Cope of Mahanoy City, PA. A 2002 graduate of Tamaqua High School, George earned a Rehabilitative Justice certificate from the Bloomsburg College certificate program. He was a certified recovery specialist for New Routes Recovery Center. A man of many talents, George was outgoing and outspoken. He had a good heart, loved everyone, and will be missed tremendously by many.
In addition to his parents, George is survived by his sister, Amanda Cope of Mount Carmel; niece and nephew, Jaydenn Cope and Jace Cope; grandmother, Anne Cope of Tamaqua; and longtime girlfriend, Holly O'Shea of Tamaqua.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Noon on Friday, January 27, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call 10 AM – Noon on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials in George’s name may be made to the Prison Society, 230 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102.

Sandra L. Herring, 73, of Natale Court, Pine Grove, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at home.
Born on May 10, 1949 in Donaldson, she was a daughter of the late James and Irene Gearhart Degler.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Wallace Herring; a daughter, Cheryl and husband Jim Miller of Pine Grove; two grandchildren, Christopher and wife Lisa Herring of Tremont, Amy Miller of Reamstown; three great grandchildren, Brayden, Lillian and Riley Herring; two brothers, James Degler and Joseph Degler.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove.
Kay L. Hogan, 71, of Ashland, passed away Thursday at Serenity Gardens, Kulpmont.
Arrangements will be announced by Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland.
