A fire destroyed a home in Locust Gap late Tuesday evening.
Just before 10:30pm, emergency personnel were called to the area of Railroad Street and 2nd Street in the village of Locust Gap in Mount Carmel Township, Northumberland County, for a house fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a fully engulfed house fire at 172 and 170 Railroad Street. Crews attacked the fire defensively it continued to engulf the home.
The home was a total loss.
Two people were reported to have been home at the time of the fire and both escaped uninjured. The fire also caused extensive damage to the exterior of an unattached home at 164 Railroad Street.
The fire was reported as under control around 12:30am.
The home was a total loss and was a mound of rubble with only the chimney standing.
Multiple Schuylkill County crews were called as a result of this incident. The Washington Fire Company's Ladder Truck (Ashland) and Friendship Fire Company's Rapid Intervention Team (Englewood) were called to the scene of the fire to assist.
The Rangers Hose Company from Girardville were called to Kulpmont and Mahanoy City's Washington Hook and Ladder were called to Mount Carmel for move up assignments.
As of this posting, there was no word on what caused the fire.
