Firefighters Respond to Ashland Brush Fire


Firefighters responded to a large brush fire near Ashland on Sunday afternoon.

At 4:22pm, emergency personnel responded to the area of 12th Street and Vine Street for a report of a brush fire.

The call originated after someone on the south side of Ashland saw smoke coming from the woods.  Ashland Fire Chief Phil Groody and Assistant Chief Charles Orth investigated and found several acres of brush burning on the north side of town.

Sunday afternoon's winds were adding to the fire and it was spreading quickly.

The Washington Fire Company, American Hose Company, and Englewood Fire Companies responded with their brush and UTV units and were able to control the fire immediately.

DCNR also responded.

Ashland Fire was one of three large brushes that occurred Sunday including one in Nuremberg and another near Orwigsburg.
