James Francis McGee
, 74, of Tamaqua, PA and formerly of Hazleton, PA, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, in Coaldale, PA. 

Born on October 14, 1948, in Hazleton, he was a son of the late John and Mabel (Newton) McGee. A 1969 graduate of Hazleton High School, James served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was employed as a machinist for Dorr-Oliver ODS. He was a lifelong problem solver who was very mechanically inclined and had a passion for automobiles. James was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers-Lodge #1648 and of the Catholic faith. 

He is survived by brother, John McGee of Virginia; sisters, Myrtle Cortez of Shippenville, PA and Helen Grier of Beaver Brook, PA; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

James was predeceased by sister, Hannah Magarosky and brothers-in-law, Robert J. Cortez, John Grier, William Grier, and Joseph Magarosky. 

A mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine Street, Tamaqua. Interment in St. Gabriel Catholic Cemetery, 241 South Poplar Street, Hazleton will follow the mass. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made towards funeral costs c/o the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home at 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.

Nancy Halloran Centra, age 89, of Pottsville, PA, formerly of Pennington, NJ and Manlius, NY passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Providence Place Retirement Community in Pottsville. 

Born in Buffalo, NY on January 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James and Ottilie (Pawlak) Halloran. Nancy graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College and received a master’s degree from Syracuse University, where she returned three decades later to earn a PhD as a working mother. Nancy’s career included some memorable times, such as spending two years teaching special ed on a US Army base in Germany in the 1950’s and teaching at Buffalo State. She ended her career as a special education administrator for the Baldwinsville School District, NY. Her biggest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Nancy loved celebrating big and small holidays, being with family and friends, and traveling, especially with her late husband who passed away in December 2021. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John A. Centra, her parents James and “Tillie” Halloran, and her four siblings, Patricia Laychak , Mary Goergen, James and Terence Halloran. 

She is survived by three daughters: Catherine “Cathy” Coyle and her husband Timothy, Pottsville; Elizabeth “Liza” Corso and her husband, Jonathan, Decatur, GA; and Joan Centra, Avondale Estates, GA; four grandchildren: Ryan, Patrick, and Catie Coyle and Sam Corso; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church in Pottsville at 11 am on Saturday, February 25, with Monsignor Edward Coyle officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday evening 6-8 pm and Saturday morning, 10-11 am at the church. 

Following the mass, interment will be held in the St John the Baptist No. 2 Cemetery in Pottsville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pentagon Memorial Fund in memory of Nancy’s nephew and godson, David Laychak. 

Robert A Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon is in charge of arrangements.

Helene C. Brunski, 92 formerly of Red Oak Terrace, New Ringgold, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Doylestown Hospital.

Born Tuesday, September 30, 1930 in Hartford, Connecticut., Helene was the daughter of Anthony and Olga (Fortunato) Panazzo. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Daniel W. Brunski in 2020 and daughter Lisa Marie (Golob) Suprenant in 2007.

After completing high school and cosmetology school, Helene became a beautician/hairdresser and operated her own business Mario-Lee Hairstylist. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Helene was Catholic by faith and a former member of St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, Tamaqua Pennsylvania.

Surviving are son, Stephen Golob of Chalfont, PA, daughter, Sally J. Denovelis of Middletown, CT; grandchildren Cody Golob, Lindsey Roscilo and Stephanie Magnoli; great granddaughters Sophia, Maddalena and Evangeline Roscilo.

Services have been entrusted to Robert S. Nester Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Friends may call on Tuesday February 21, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 at 655 East Broad Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252 570-668-2550. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 with Reverend Robert Finlan officiating.

Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua, PA.

John J. Quinn
, 85, of Cherry Valley of the Heckscherville Valley, passed away Wednesday, February 15th, at The Gardens at York Terrace. 

John was born in Pottsville, Pa. on November 17, 1937, a son of the late Elizabeth (Canfield) and Michael Quinn. He was the husband of Elizabeth R. (Callaghan) Quinn. He was a member of the former St. Kieran Church of Heckscherville. John was a former tree surgeon and retired from Pottsville Bleach & Dye Co. He was a member of the Clover Fire Co. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Canfield, and a granddaughter Rebecca Quinn. 

John is survived by his wife Elizabeth, a daughter, Tina, wife of Steve Skibiel, four sons John “Chaz”, husband of Jean Quinn, James Quinn, Dennis, husband of Michele Quinn, Mark “Louie”, husband of Lisa Quinn. John is also survived by a sister, Cathy Quinn. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

All are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life, 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 25th at Clover Fire Co. in Heckscherville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clover Fire Co. 

Interment shall be private at convenience of the Family.
