Schuylkill County Controller Sharyn Yackenchick has announced her bid for Re-election to Office. She was elected to her first term in 2021 to fulfill a 2-year term.
The Controller’s Office supervises the County’s fiscal affairs. The office coordinates the County’s annual audit along with auditing county row offices, local tax collectors, magisterial district judges, maintains contracts, and processes all county payments.
Yackenchick says during her first year, her focus was saving the taxpayers money by setting procedures to streamline payments to be more cost efficient. The majority of payments to employees and retirees are paid utilizing direct deposit.
The county collects delinquent property taxes. Now all delinquent taxes are direct deposits to the municipality and school districts within 30 days along with electronic reports, reducing costs by saving postage and printing costs.
Foster Care payments to parents of foster care children are being expedited and processed timelier and more cost efficient through direct deposit.
“The Controller’s office has been and will continue to be above the political fray. Under my leadership I will strive to save the taxpayer money by looking for more efficient ways to process payments quickly and timely. I will continue to review all County Contracts to make sure the terms and conditions are upheld. I have also found unclaimed property of $7,312 for the County. I respect the hardworking taxpayers of our county and they deserve a Controller who has their interest at heart.”
Yackenchick is a lifelong resident of Schuylkill County and a graduate of Blue Mountain High School and Schuylkill Business Institute. She was raised in Orwigsburg and resides in Wayne Township with her husband Chuck and three sons. And a member of St. Ambrose Church.
