WEST MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - Two people were flown with injuries after a tractor trailer crashed off Interstate 81 near Frackville on Sunday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 2:20pm, when a tractor trailer heading southbound just before the Frackville exit veered into the median and went airborne at the bridges that cross Altamont Boulevard.
The tractor landed onto the Boulevard below with the trailer overturning.
The male driver and a female passenger had to be extricating by emergency personnel.
Both victims were transported to St. Clair where they were flown with unknown injuries.
A Ford pickup truck also sustained damage as it traveled south on Altamont Boulevard has the truck went airborne.
The driver of the pickup was not injured.
The Pennsylvania State Police and PennDOT at the scene investigating.
Altamont Boulevard from Industrial Park Road to Mall Road will be closed for an extended period of time.
Responding to the scene were the Altamont Fire and William Penn Fire Companies from West Mahanoy Township, Friendship Fire from Englewood, and Good Will Fire from Frackville. Police from West Mahanoy Township, Shenandoah, Ashland, and Frackville were also at the scene to assist. Ambulances from Frackville, Shenandoah, and Schuylkill EMS transported the victims.
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash.
