An Ashland man is locked up in Northumberland County Prison after a pursuit and crash late Wednesday.
According to Mount Carmel Police, around 9:10pm, on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, Officer Drew Weaver observed a Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed on Fifth Street in Mount Carmel.
Officer Weaver followed the vehicle onto Route 61 towards Centralia when the Charger attempted to pull away at speeds estimated at 120mph.
The driver of the vehicle then ignored a stop sign in Centralia at the intersection of Main Street and Big Mine Run Road.
The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed on Big Mine Run Road until losing control on a sharp bend, spinning 180 degrees and going backwards into some trees.
The driver, Antonio Deangelo, 21, of Ashland, exited the vehicle on his own and had no visible injuries.
Officer Weaver stated Deangelo had slurred speech and glassy eyes, and a THC marijuana pen was found on the driver's side door.
After being evaluated by EMS, he was transported to the hospital for drug testing.
Officer Weaver charged Deangelo with felony fleeing and eluding police, DUI related to drugs (second offense), possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving, driving with no insurance, and obstructed registration.
Deangelo was transported to Northumberland County Jail after being arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William Charles Cole on $40,000 straight cash bail.
Aristes Fire, Mount Carmel EMS, and Mount Carmel Township Police assisted at the scene.
