Mahanoy City Man Faces Charges for Firing Shots

A Mahanoy City man is facing charges after firing shots in the borough.

According to the Mahanoy City Police, the investigation began on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, around 7:30pm when borough police received a report of a man walking with gun in the 500 Block of East Railroad Street.

Officer Jordan Smith spoke with the caller who said he had surveillance video of a man walking down the street, removing a handgun from a fanny pack, rack the gun, and point it in front of him while making various comments.  Officer Smith confirmed the incident on the video.

The caller also told police that he heard a gunshot earlier in the day.

The male in the video would later be identified as Thomas Hall Jr., 23, of Mahanoy City.  Officers attempted to find Hall but were unable to locate him.

On Friday, March 24th, 2023, Borough Police began receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the 600 block of East Railroad Street.   Police Officer Lenard responded to the area around 4:40am, where she recovered 2 spent 380 shells approximately 10 feet in front of the home at 620 East Railroad.

Officer Lenar went back to the home where the original video was recorded of Hall, and found that he walked by again after being able to hear two loud bangs.

On Saturday, March 25th, 2023, around 1:52am, Borough Police received additional calls for shots fired, first in the 1400 Block of East Railroad, then a second in the 800 Block of East Railroad.  During both incidents, officers were unable to locate a suspect.

Later that day on Saturday, around 7:20pm, the station received a phone call from an off-duty officer, relaying they seen Hall walking in the 500 Block of Railroad, where he was then taken into custody.

The firearm was not found on Hall, but during questioning, he admitted to police to possessing a 1911 style pistol, and said he received the gun from a friend.  He also admitted to firing the shots.

As a result, Hall was charged with recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, firearm not to be carried without a license, loitering and prowling at night, and possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Reiley, Pottsville, and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $10,000 straight cash bail.
