Akili Scott
, 45, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away Monday, March 20th, at his residence.

Akili was born in Kingston Jamaica., on August 11, 1977, a son of Norma (Hinds), of Jamaica and Wayne Scott, of New Milford, and his stepmother Toni Scott.

He was the companion of Pamela Opolsky.

Akili is survived by a step daughter, Aaliyah Watkins and a step son, Elijah Watkins. He is also survived by five sisters, Alicia, Dameta, Shana, Jamica, Shana six brothers, Wayne Scott Jr., Dashan, Kawane, Kareem, Akeem, and Shaquane.

Religious Service at the Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Mahanoy City, PA, at 10AM on Saturday, April 1st, with his father, the Reverend Wayne Scott officiating.

Friends and family may call Saturday 9 to 10AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Skyview Memorial Park Tamaqua, PA.

Warren Schreffler, 86 years of age, of Penn Drive, West Penn Township, Pennsylvania passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, as a guest of Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation in Lehighton, Pennsylvania.

Born Thursday, December 10, 1936 in Minersville, Pennsylvania the son of the late Harry, and Mildred (Gotschall ) Schreffler. Warren was also predeceased by; son, Gary R. Schreffler on Sept 11, 2021; sister, Susan Schreffler.

Surviving are; his beloved wife of 58 years, Marguerite (Galbreath) Schreffler; daughter, Kim Blank and her fiancée Ted Engle of Slatington; grandson, Kyle Schmoyer.

Warren was a graduate of Minersville High School, and retired from the former Tamaqua A&P grocery store after 47 years of service. Lutheran by faith, Warren collected baseball cards, bowled, and liked to roller skate.

Interment will be in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

John Philip “Phil” Sacco Sr., 84 of Mahanoy Plane passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, March 28, 2023 at his residence.

Born in Shenandoah on October 24, 1938, he was a son of the late Christ Sacco Sr. and the late Jennie (DeCrease) Sacco.

He was a retired tire salesman having worked in the New Brunswick, NJ area.

Phil was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah formerly Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 618, Shenandoah. He was an avid New York Giants fan. His family was of utmost importance to him, he enjoyed the many family reunions that he hosted. Phil looked forward to the annual Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the festivities and gatherings that ensued with his family and friends.

Preceding him in death in addition to her parents were his wife, the former Barbara A. Stass on December 8, 2014 and his brother, Christ Sacco, Jr. on June 25, 2019.

Surviving are his daughter, Christine Van Allen and her husband Michael of Mahanoy Plane; his son, John Philip “JP” Sacco Jr. and his wife Debra of Girardville; five grandchildren, Justina, William, Megan, Emma and Sean; his sister, Mary Rose Masternack of Shenandoah; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Religious services will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held on Monday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 am at the funeral home.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah is in care of the arrangements.

Dorothy E. Artz
, 89, of Pine Grove passed away Monday afternoon, March 27, 2023 at the Tremont Health & Rehab Center.

Born in Donaldson, November 24, 1933, a daughter of the late Lewis and Mabel Romberger Ney. Dorothy was a graduate of the former Tremont High School.

She was of the Methodist faith.

In her younger years, she worked in the garment industry, but she devoted most of her life to raising her family.

Dorothy also enjoyed roller skating and going to the races at the Big Diamond in her youth.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Lamar Artz, 2021, and a grandson John Artz, 1998. Dorothy was also the last surviving member of her siblings, being predeceased by all thirteen.

Surviving are her two sons, David Artz, Pine Grove, and Russell Artz (Lori), Tower City; three grandchildren, Jessica, Sean, and Lindsay; six great grandchildren, Isabella, Sean, David, Valerie, Zane, and Maddox; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy will be laid to rest privately in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Pastor Amanda Bressler officiating.

Jade L. Lerch
, 26, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, March 25th at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

She was born on September 4, 1996 in Pottsville and was the daughter of Susan McGurl and the late Randall S. Lerch.

Jade attended from North Schuylkill High School.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Jade enjoyed music, styling hair, and doing nail art.

Jade is survived by; daughter Tori Fanelli; mother Susan McGurl, Ashland; brother Cody Lerch (Jessica), Fountain Springs; brother John Burke, Ashland; brother Matthew Burke, Ashland; grandmother Barbara McGurl, Ashland; several aunts, uncles, cousins.

A viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. A service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Wayne K. Parfitt, 87, of Pottsville passed away Tuesday while a resident of The Gardens at York Terrace.

Born September 26, 1935, he was the son of the late Howard and Mary Parfitt.

He was a 1953 graduate of Pottsville Area High School.

Wayne was married to the late Eileen C. Seltzer who passed away in 1992.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Wayne worked most of his life for Rockwell Industries and retired from there after 32 years of employment.

In his spare time Wayne enjoyed mechanical work and working on cars.

In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Doris Powers and a daughter-in-law Sunday Parfitt.

Wayne is survived by his children; Martiann Parfitt of Sacramento CA, William Parfitt of Pottsville and Wayne Parfitt of Newport News, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Catherine wife of Ali, Abigail, and Benjamin of Newport News, VA and Donald of Norfolk, VA and Josiah of Kileen TX and great grandchildren; Kayla, Brooke, James, Olivia, and Parker.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Grabowski Funeral Home, Schuylkill Haven. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 A.M. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

George R. “Porky” Trabosh
, known as Bobby to his family, 88, passed away in his Hamburg residence on Saturday, March 25, 2023. He was the loving husband of Marguerite (Stine) Trabosh.

Born in Port Clinton to the late John and Carrie (Kline) Trabosh, Porky graduated from Hamburg High School in 1952 before enlisting in the Army 11th Airborne Division, serving during the Korean War. A paratrooper, he greatly enjoyed night jumps.

After his honorable discharge, George worked for 35 years with Rockwell International before retiring in 1997.

He will be greatly missed by his dear wife, Maggie, their loving family, and all the friends he and Maggie made during walks along the trails.

Left to treasure George’s memory are his wife, Marguerite; their children: Rose Marie Trabosh (wife of Kevin McKelvey) of Bethlehem; Michael Trabosh (significant other Lisa Marie Edmonds) of McKeansburg; Brian Trabosh of Tilden Township; and Michele Hamlin (wife of Randy Hamlin) of Hamburg; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers: John, survived by wife, Rose; Harold, survived by wife, Fran; and Richard and wife Shirley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 94 Walnut Rd, Hamburg PA 19526, with committal to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery of Hamburg. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Burkey-Driscoll Funeral Home, 40 S 4th St, Hamburg, and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the start of Mass at the church.
