Roberta Margaret Chinchar, 84, of Orwigsburg, PA and formerly of Mary D, PA, died on Monday, March 6, 2023, in Orwigsburg. She was the wife of the late Daniel Chinchar to whom she was married 43 years at the time of his death on May 31, 2005.

Born in Plainfield, NJ on June 3, 1938, Roberta was the daughter of the late Walter and Florence (Bolten) Eager. A1955 graduate of Metuchen High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. Roberta started her nursing career working in New Brunswick, NJ and eventually was employed by St. Luke’s Miners, Coaldale, PA. She also was employed as a Visiting Nurse, often taking blood pressures at Shafer’s Pharmacy in Tamaqua, PA. A watercolor artist, Roberta belonged to the Allied Artist’s Association. She was a member of the Tamaqua Historical Society, the Mary D Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary, and the Parish of St. John XXIII, Tamaqua. 

Roberta is survived by son, Daniel Chinchar and his wife Jennifer of Mary D; daughter, Melissa O’Neal and her husband Scott of Clifton, VA; and grandchildren, Brennan O’Neal, Patrick O’Neal, Ellie O’Neal, Daniel Chinchar, III, and Daniel Heckman. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Eager. 

Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 13, 2023, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. 

Interment in St. Bertha Cemetery, Tuscarora, PA will follow the services. Call 9-11 AM on Monday at the funeral home. 

Memorial donations in Roberta’s name may be made to the Tamaqua Historical Society at tamaquahistoricalsociety.org.

Karen I. (Jacoby) Leahy
, 73, of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 5, surrounded by her loving family and friends at her home.

Born in Pottsville, on June 1, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Zella (Brown) Jacoby.

Karen graduated from Pottsville Area High School and attended McCann Business School to become a CPA. She worked for the Pottsville Area School District as a baker. She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dogs. Karen enjoyed going for walks daily with her four-legged friends, baking Christmas cookies, crocheting, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and loved gardening and planting/growing her own vegetables. She was an avid bowler in her younger years and was a member of many leagues. She always had a sweet tooth and really enjoyed her daily sweets.

Karen was preceded in death by her loving husband, of 47 years, Norman T. Leahy, who passed April 21, 2017, and a brother, Alfred Jacoby.

Surviving are her loving daughters, Mary Louise Leahy Downer (husband Tomas), Pottsville, Molly Leahy Bressler (partner, Stephen Platko), Minersville and Melissa Leahy (partner, James Brady), St. Clair, her loving son, Andrew (wife, Leah) Leahy, Shoreline, WA, five grandchildren, Jordon Hughes, Cade Bressler, Tomas Downer, Killian Bressler, Aiden Downer, a brother, Barry Jacoby and partner Karen, and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 10, at 1:30 PM at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market Street, Pottsville with Deacon Jack Quirk officiating.

Friends and family can call from 11:30 AM till the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ruth Steiner Memorial SPCA, 18 Wertz Drive, Pine Grove, PA 17963.

Jeffrey A. Spittler
, 71, of Pine Grove, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 in St. Luke's Hospice, Bethlehem.

Born on January 10, 1952 in Pottsville, he was a son and step son of the late Ernest Spittler and David and Marian Etzweiler Sallada.

Jeffrey was a 1969 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School.

He was a Supervisor at Exxon in Minersville.

Jeffrey was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Preceding him in death was a son, Jeremy Spittler.

Surviving are his son, Jason Spittler of Hamburg; a daughter, Kara Ford of N.C.; his wife, Beverly Teter Spittler; a step daughter, Rachelle Jones, both of Pine Grove; four grandchildren, Austin and Collins Ford, Logan and Garett Street; two brothers, Ernest Spittler of Pine Grove, Bary Spittler of Tremont; four sisters, Catherine Bert of Honduras,Virginia Troutman and Lori Carl, both of Pine Grove, Judy Portelli of West Pittston; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Pine Grove American Legion, 42 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove. Interment in the Most Blessed Trinity Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

The H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. Pine Grove is in charge of arrangements.

Sherri L. (Kramer) Umholtz
, 50, of Bloomsburg, formerly of Pottsville, passed away on Saturday, February 25, at Geisinger Medical Center.

Born on April 13, 1972 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of Barbara (nee Kramer) Bachert. She had been employed as a legal secretary, and co-owned the former T & S Auto Sales, in Orwigsburg. She was last employed at Wegman’s Distribution Center, Highridge.

While residing in Pottsville, she was an active firefighter, former Vice-President and Secretary of the Phoenix Fire Company No. 2, Pottsville.

She was an avid seashell collector and animal lover.

In addition to her mother, Sherri is survived by three children, Tyler Dalton, Bloomsburg, Payge Dalton, Scranton and Devon Gerace, Bloomsburg.

Services are private. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral home or by using the DONATE FUNERAL FUNDS link at the top of this obituary page. Contributions will be used according to the family’s needs. Dutcavich Funeral Home has charge.
