With just a little more than 2 months to the Annual Spartan Games at North Schuylkill, the torch has begun its journey to participating schools.
The 5th Annual Spartans Games are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023, at Spartan Stadium and the excitement is building.
The "Spartan Games" is an event where North Schuylkill hosts a day full of competition, activities, and fun for local students with special needs.
Each year, 800 athletes from 19 schools across Schuylkill County and the surrounding areas descend on the school grounds to compete.
As preparation get underway for the 2023 edition, the new Spartan Games trophy left North Schuylkill to make a visit to every participating school.
On Wednesday, Sparty joined by athletes Ainsley Brayford and Coleman Kruger, and Senior Johanna Taylor, and Juniors Keegan Curry and Jaxson Chowansky, hit the road to deliver the torch to Upper Dauphin.
As the torch is passed between schools, each school will document its journey. The torch will arrive back at North Schuylkill on May 2nd, and a special video will be released on social media showing the full journey.
Organizers thank Fred Lesoine, of East Stroudsburg, for helping make the one-of-a-kind torch. The wooden handle was made by Lesoine in his woodworking shop using a lathe.
The athletes, Ainsley Brayford and Coleman Kruger, both said they are excited for this year's games.
