Ashland resident and Borough Manager Ray Jones has announced that he will pursue a Schuylkill County Commissioner Seat.
Jones, a long-time Ashland resident, and graduate of Cardinal Brennan High School will seek the GOP nomination in the May 16 primary.
“I have dedicated my life to serving my community and helping others,” Jones said.
“I believe the time is right for me to bring my passion for public service to Schuylkill County government. Now more than ever, Schuylkill County needs someone to stand strong for the taxpayers in the face of the property tax reassessment”.
Jones also feels that there is a need for greater transparency in the courthouse.
“We need a conservative leader to institute transparency and efficiency for the peoples’ tax dollars. We need to conduct more work in house instead of hiring high priced consultants. I am running to provide tangible solutions to the problems our county faces. I believe Schuylkill County residents are ready for change. he said.
“I believe that my years of experience as Borough Manager and fighting blight with the land bank sets me apart from the rest of the candidates. Public service is my passion. With the right kind of leadership, Schuylkill County can become a destination for businesses looking to relocate, providing good jobs and families looking for a great place to live, work and raise their families.”
“I look toward moving Schuylkill County forward together, as I have done for many years.”
Jones serves as a board member of several groups, including the Government Affairs, Infrastructure, Broadband Task Force and board of directors of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of the Schuylkill County Land Bank, North Schuylkill Council of Governments, and Ashland Community Enterprises, which operates the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine and Stream Train tour and a 35-year member of the Washington Fire Company, Ashland. He is also involved in other civic endeavors.
