On Tuesday, the new Schuylkill Transportation System facility in Saint Clair was dedicated with Local, State, and Federal representatives present.
The new 85,572 square foot facility that cost $35 million dollars to build, located at 300 Wade Road in St. Clair, replaces the old facility in the St. Clair Industrial Park. The previous facility had been in operation for 37 years.
A groundbreaking was held for this facility in 2020.
The new facility began operation in January and Tuesday's event was to allow everyone involved in the project to give thanks.
The event was attended by Terry Garcia Crews, the Federal Transit Administration Three administrator, Meredith Biggica, Deputy Secretary of Multimodal Transportation for PennDOT, Andrew Batson, Division Chief for Planning and Project Delivery for PennDOT, as well as the project's managers.
The lucky person to cut ribbon the new facility was Joshua Stranix, 46, of Schuylkill Haven. Stranix has the fixed route lines for 23 years.
The new facility can park 52 vehicles inside which include the system's vans and buses. Maintenance can also be done at the facility. It also has it's own vehicle washing station inside.
