The Schuylkill County Coroner's office was called to the scene of a crash early Saturday near Mahanoy City.
The single vehicle crash occurred just before 2:15am on Barnesville Drive (Route 54) near the intersection with Tunnel Road.
By 2:45am, Route 54 was shut down in the area and the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office was called to the scene for a fatal crash. Route 54 was closed from the top of the Vulcan Hill near Interstate 81 to Hillside Drive, in both directions.
By 4:30am, the roadway was open to at least one lane. There is a low hanging utility pole from the crash. PPL has been advised.
No other details were available on the crash.
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
