Born in Philadelphia on November 4, 1946, Bill was a son of the late Ester (Henry) Carlisle; grandson of the late William and Leda (Schlemmer) Rinkenberg who lived in Tamaqua, PA; and nephew of the late William L. and Caroline (Schmidt) Henry who lived in Beaver Meadows, PA. Raised by his grandparents and aunt and uncle, Bill was a lifelong resident of Tamaqua, graduating from Tamaqua High School in 1964. He worked in the Allentown railroad yards as a crane operator and car inspector for the Reading, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern Railroads and Heisler’s Dairy in Lewistown Valley. Bill was a life member of the Tamaqua Elks; a founding member of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad; and a social member of the Tamaqua American Legion, C. H. Berry Post # 173. He loved to run beagles, hunt, and fish. An avid sports fan, Bill followed the Phillies, Eagles, and Penn State. But a bigger fan and cheerleader could not be found for his grandkids’ games and horse shows than him.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, Bill is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Seltzer of Tamaqua; son Mark Henry and his wife Judy of New Tripoli, PA; grandchildren, Sarah Henry, Nicholas Henry, and Zoe Seltzer; brother, Phillip Carlisle; and cousins, Marcia Shofran and her husband Ronald of Weatherly, PA and Charlotte Gulycz and her husband Michael of Catasauqua, PA.
He was also predeceased by a baby daughter, Michele Henry; grandmother, Elmyria Rinkenberg Kresege; and cousin, George Henry.
Services will be held at 7 PM on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with Pastor Rick Clemson officiating. Call 5-7 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.
James was born October 14, 1938 in Langley VA, a son of the late Col. Joseph J. Davidson and Eleanor "Muti" Muldoon Davidson.
He was a member of the inaugural graduating class of Nativity BVM High School 1955 and went on to complete his bachelor's degree at the University of Mississippi in 1967.
Prior to retiring in 1999, James worked in Schuylkill County's Demolitions Office.
Zero, as his friends called him, was a man with passion for life and insatiable curiosity. He truly loved the feel of the wind in his hair, and the sound of a motor roaring beneath him. Throughout his life he was an avid motorcycle rider and mechanic, and loved to restore and drive antique military vehicles until the very end of his time. He was an active member in the local chapter of Military Vehicle Preservation Association, and travelled to meetings of the organization across the USA. He enjoyed time spent with his many friends from town and all across the country, and was always quick to come to the aid of those who needed it.
Zero was also a member of Saint Patrick Roman Catholic Church.
Surviving James are his wife Carol Wagner Davidson, 2 daughters, Paisley Davidson of New York, NY, Mollie Davidson and her Fiancee Jay Morgans of Kingston, PA, 2 sons, Phillip Davidson and his wife Tatiana Pozdniyakova of Pottsville PA, Joseph Davidson and his fiance Daniella Garcia of Pottsville, and granddaughter Maria Davidson. James is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Boyle of Doylestown, PA and Joanne Davidson of New York, NY, nephews Kevin Boyle, Jay Boyle and his wife Golan, and Tim Boyle, and niece Kerry Sturza and her husband Craig. James is also survived by his many, many dear friends.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 7PM Friday April 28 at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 5PM until the time of mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Zero be made to Pottsville Free Public Library, 215 W. Market St. Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be private at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
