A Schuylkill County Municipal Authority worker was struck and killed Thursday morning in Pottsville.
According to Pottsville Police, the incident occurred around 10:40am, on Thursday, when police and emergency personnel were called to the 400 block of Nichols Street for a report of a pedestrian struck.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found, Jeremy Smith, 46, severely injured and unresponsive on the sidewalk of the south side of the street.
Smith was immediately transported by Pottsville EMS to Lehigh Valley East, where he later died from his injuries.
An investigation was conducted which found that a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by 51-year-old Patrick M. Kilcullen, of Minersville, was traveling east on Nichols Street and left the roadway and struck Smith, while he was working.
The Blazer also struck a parked Dodge Caravan.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene. The Blazer will also be analyzed more extensively to assist in determining a cause.
Charges are pending the investigation.
Nichols Street was closed for nearly 3 hours while the scene was investigated.
Assisting with the incident were the Pennsylvania State Police, Schuylkill County District Attorney's Office, Pottsville Fire Police, and Pottsville EMS.
