On Friday morning, North Schuylkill's Spartan Fire and Rescue Club showed their fellow school peers the dangers of drinking and driving.
The event brought nearly a dozen different first responding agencies to demonstrated to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders what happens at the scene of a fatal crash.
The mock DUI is held each year prior to the school's Junior/Senior Prom which was being held Saturday evening.
North Schuylkill Junior Chase Carroll and member of Frackville's Good Will Fire Company planned the event.
The scenario involved a two-vehicle crash that ejected killed one of the victims and injured another. The drunk driver took a sobriety test at the scene and was taken away in handcuffs.
Assisting with the demonstration where the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office, Schuylkill 911, police departments from Butler Township and Frackville, Ambulances from Ashland and Shenandoah, and fire departments from Frackville, Englewood, and Lavelle.
After the mock DUI, students listened to a presentation by North Schuylkill School Board President Charles "Chaz" Hepler. Hepler was involved in a fatal head-on crash on Route 901 in Barry Township on August 27, 2021. The investigation into the crash found that the other driver in the crash was 3 times over the legal limit of intoxication.
Hepler used his experiences going through the crash and recovering to stress the dangers of driving under the influence.
