The City of Pottsville has announced their plans for Memorial Day 2023.
The day will begin with the Memorial Day Mile. This one-mile race starts at 18th Street and ends in Garfield Square. Runners can register at City Hall, Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4 PM. Race Day Registration will be held from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM. The first heat will begin at 8:45 AM. The Awards ceremony will take place immediately following the race.
At 11 AM, a traditional Memorial Day Ceremony will take place in Garfield Square. The 2023 honored speaker will be retired Brigadier General Robert C. Allison Jr. Brigadier General Allison enlisted in the PA Army National Guard on November 30, 1983 and then retired in February 2019. He has served several leadership and command positions through the course of his Military Career
The day will also highlight music from Pottsville’s Third Brigade Band and the singing of God Bless America by Danica Frederick, Winter Carnival Snowdrop Princess and Spotlight Kidz Member, the reading of the Gettysburg Address and Flanders Field by local students. Hometown Hero Banner recipients will also be recognized by the Winter Carnival Royalty. Guests are asked to bring a chair.

The rain location will be the First United Methodist Church located at 330 West market Street, Pottsville. Everyone is invited to attend this moving and meaningful ceremony.
