An inmate of the Schuylkill County Prison is facing new charges after he assaulted a corrections officer.
Upon arrival, police made contact with corrections staff who informed the officer that a 50-year-old female corrections officer was assaulted by an inmate.
Police say the correction officer was punched in the face several times by inmate, Kevin Harris, 38, causing visible injury to her face and mouth. Harris continued the assault with several more punches to the back of the Correction Officer's head causing bodily injury. She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for further medical treatment.
Due to Harris resisting staff, several locations of the prison were put on lock down to secure the scene.
Pottsville Ptlm. Anna Flail completed a criminal complaint for Harris charging him with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Persistent Disorderly Conduct and Harassment.
On Monday, May 15, 2023, Harris was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Reilly who set bail at 20,000 straight cash.
This is the second assault by an inmate on a corrections officer within the last month. An incident occurred on April 21, 2023 when an inmate, identified as Brad Eiler, 41, had struck an officer during an incident.
