Memorial Day weekend kicks off the "unofficial" start of summer, but it also means the beginning of the Schuylkill County Block Party Season.
The Friendship Fire Company in Englewood has always traditionally held their annual block party on Memorial Day weekend and this year wasn't any different.
The block party opened Friday afternoon and it didn't take long for party goers to show up and line up for homemade bleenies, pierogies, and bean soup
The party kicked into high gear at 7:30pm when the apparatus parade was held. Over 80 units took part in the parade that wound its way through the Butler Township area of Frackville, Frackville Borough, and Altamont.
Hooligan provided live music entertainment all night which included a surprise appearance by Brandon Yeagley, the vocalist for Crobot. Yeagley and Hooligan lead singer, Keith Collins sang Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog together.
The weather was perfect for a night out in "The Wood".
The block party runs through the rest of the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, opening each day at Noon.
Saturday night's entertainment is live music by Leadfoot and the John Stevens Polka Band performs Sunday evening to close the event.
