A fire Thursday morning in Mahanoy City was ruled accidental.
The call came in at 8:09am when Schuylkill 911 reported receiving multiple calls of smoke and flames coming from a home in the 1200 Block of East Market Stret, Mahanoy City.
Firefighters arrived to find the fire at 1220 East Market Street extending to the home next door. A 2nd alarm was issued calling in additional manpower from surrounding communities to the scene.
By the 20-minute par check, Mahanoy City Chief Dan Markiewicz reported the bulk of the fire being knocked.
According to Lieutenant Dave Truskowsky of the Mahanoy City Fire Department, Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Joseph Hall arrived at the scene later Thursday morning and determined that the fire was caused by unattended cooking and ruled accidental.
The fire destroyed the home at 1220 and heavily damaged 1222, displacing 2 adults from each home.
The American Red Cross is assisting all 4 residents.
