For some, it was their first time learning the course, while for others it served as a refresher. The course was taught by Keith Doolan, Program Manager for Schuylkill/Berks Counties in Sports Medicine Relationships for St. Luke’s University Health Network; and his wife, Dr. Amy Doolan, a physician at St. Luke’s office in Ashland. For their participation in the training, the North Schuylkill School District will receive a free Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The event was coordinated through the Compress and Shock Foundation, which was founded with the vision of establishing an annual CPR and AED Education Day. Each year, they provide free chest-compression only CPR and AED education to the public. Their mission is to bring free and equitable access to CPR and AED education to all communities, with a specific dedication to those most adversely affected by cardiac arrest due to race, ethnicity, primary language, and access to healthcare education. The training focuses on eliminating common barriers associated with bystander intervention.
Given the fact that the current survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest is less than 10%, Compress and Shock Foundation wholeheartedly believe the preparation can be the difference between life and death.
