On Saturday, runners competed in Schuylkill County's toughest and oldest race, the Coal Cracker 10K.
Over 150 people competed in Saturday's 6.2-mile race that began in Shenandoah, travelled down Route 924 along the Goldstar Highway to Gilberton, through Boston Run into Mahanoy Township, and back up Suffolk Road returning to Shenandoah.
This was the 41st running of the event.
The 2022 winner, Matthew Santacoloma, 21, of Olyphant, returned to defend and won the 2023 race with a time of 35:45.

The first female crossing the finish line was 27-year-old, Ashley Schappe with a time of 46:55.
Prior to the 10K, the 1.5-Mile Fun Run was held for the kids.
Finishing first was Samuel Klingerman, 12, with a time of 8:58, followed by 12-year-old Gene Sinkus at 9:18, and 11-year-old Kyler Good with a time of 9:28.
For the adults participating in the fun run, Gregg Ackley, 33, finished with a time of 10:12, Alex Donchak, 20, finished with a time of 10:36, and Alizze Crawford, 9, finished 3rd with a time of 11:12.
